If you have stumbled on this blog randomly then welcome! This is my annual post where I look back on the mortgage overpayments myself and my husband have made over the previous calendar year.
Yes, I know the advice is to invest the money in an S&S ISA instead of overpay the mortgage. Yes, I know that in personal finance circles overpaying the mortgage is seen as a waste of time and money. But I don't care. I want the psychological boost of knowing that I own my house sooner than the bank thought I would.
So, here are this years overpayments by month, and the total at the end. I wanted to hit £500 this year. And I have....

Thoughts
...not succeeded XD
No, sadly the combination of higher interest rates, needing to pay for childcare, and all the other household costs going up, meant that we had to focus our money on other things this year. I have also changed some of my side hustle priorities to put money towards other things, so there has been less for the mortgage.
That being the case, I'm still quite pleased with how we did. The fact that we can overpay at all despite increasing financial pressures is something I'm quite proud of.
My target for 2026 is £450. A little more than 2025 but not excessively so.
